SUMMARY:The First Hymn
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening as we view The First Hymn\, a powerful documentary that traces the discovery of an ancient fragment of papyrus found on a garbage dump in Egypt. Written nearly 1\,800 years ago\, the papyrus contains partial words and musical notation to what is believed to be the earliest known Christian hymn. \nOur guest for the evening will be Dr. John Dickson\, distinguished professor at Wheaton College and a central figure in the documentary. Dr. Dickson will share his personal experiences from the making of the film\, tracing these ancient words from an Egyptian trash heap to the beautiful hymn we know today. He will also unpack the rich theology that connects us with believers from eighteen centuries ago. \nThe words of this ancient hymn were later taken to well-known songwriters Chris Tomlin and Ben Fielding\, who composed a modern version titled The First Hymn. Dr. Tony Payne arranged the classical version\, which many of us have had the joy of singing with our choir. \nThis will truly be an evening you won’t want to miss. \nSchedule for the Evening \n5:00 pm — Punch in the Fellowship Center \n5:30 pm — Dinner in the Fellowship Center \n6:30 pm — Program in the East Worship Center \nTickets \nTickets will go on sale soon. \nFood Drive \nAt each Prime Time event this year\, we are collecting canned food to support the People’s Resource Center Food Bank.\nIf you’re able\, please bring one or two nonperishable items to donate.
