Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?

    Does he who formed the eye not see?

Does he who disciplines nations not punish?

    Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?

The Lord knows all human plans;

    he knows that they are futile.
Psalm 94:9-11

As we continue to behold our all-knowing God, this week’s passage confirms what is clear throughout the Bible: God remains involved in His creation, hearing and seeing all things.

God sees when Eve and Adam fall into sin (Genesis 3). God sees the wickedness in the time of Noah (Genesis 6). When Israel is enslaved in Egypt, God hears their cries, sees their misery, and rescues them (Exodus 3:7-9). After the Exodus, God hears Israel grumbling for food and feeds them with manna and quail (Exodus 16). In Judges, God sees all the evil committed by Israel, yet still listens for their cries and delivers them from their enemies. In 1 & 2 Kings, God sees the good and evil done by the kings over Israel and Judah. God even hears Jonah from the belly of the whale (Jonah 2:1-2)! God knows people’s thoughts and sees us before we are born (Psalm 139). Jesus hears people’s unspoken thoughts (Matthew 9:4) and tells us that the Father “sees what is done in secret” (Matthew 6:4).

God hears not only your words but also your thoughts. He sees not only your actions but also your motivations. God’s complete knowledge of us can be unsettling. After all, our thoughts are often disobedient and dark, and our motivations are often sinful and selfish. But remember that even after Israel disobeyed, God listened for their cries and saved them. Even after Israel rebelled, God watched over and protected them. And because God is love and never changes, we can trust Him to do the same for us! God listens for our cries and hears our questions. He sees our struggles. Just as He saved Israel from their oppressors, He longs to save us. His forgiveness, redemption, and restoration through Jesus is freely available to us today. All you need to do is cry out. He will hear you, see you, and respond immediately with salvation.

How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.

Isaiah 30:19b

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:9-13

Questions for reflection and discussion:

  • What do you want God to hear and see and know about you?
  • What do you want God to hear and see and know about what is going on in the world?
  • What do you wish God did not know about you?
  • Have you cried out to God for salvation?

If you decide to cry out to God for salvation through Jesus Christ, please let someone know about your decision: a friend or someone at Wheaton Bible Church. Or check out this additional resource: https://peacewithgod.net/.
