Local Impact Training
Wheaton Bible Church is committed to equip and mobilize the people of our church on a disciple-making mission right here in DuPage County. We do this by sending people out into the community to build relationships through service and by doing life together. Our hope is that through these relationships, there will be an opportunity to share the message of God’s love and saving truth.
Most of this relationship-building is with people in the community who are at risk: refugees, immigrants, migrants, and economically challenged children, families, singles, and others.
This is hard work! That’s why we want our people to be as prepared as possible as they reach out to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Through a three-step process, we invite individuals to explore, apply, and receive training in preparation for their involvement in one of our many Local Impact initiatives:
Step 1: Connect
If you sense God leading you to serve with Local Impact, contact us and let us answer your questions and help you find a ministry opportunity that is right for you! Stop by our Serve desk in the Atrium, or contact Local Impact Volunteer Coordinator Chelsea Kesavadhana, 630.876.6684.
Step 2: Apply
If you want to serve on our Hunger Team, with Refugee Resettlement, or through Puente del Pueblo, we ask that you complete an application process. This process includes an application, an interview, and background and reference checks.
Step 3: Training
We ask all volunteers to attend Local Impact Training. These trainings are held about four times a year and include a free lunch! They equip new volunteers to think biblically about building relationships with and serving the vulnerable in DuPage County. You are welcome to attend training before or after you apply to serve. Then, once your application is accepted, you will receive training that is specific to your chosen ministry area.
