Puente del Pueblo/ESL Training Orientation January 21, 2018
Puente del Pueblo, in partnership with Literacy DuPage, equips volunteers to teach adults how to speak, read, and write in English. Upon completion of a twenty-hour ESL (English as a Second Language) training course, Puente’s volunteer ESL tutors are scheduled to meet every week for two hours in small groups (1:1 to 1:4) with adults in the community. Throughout God’s Word, He challenges us to love our neighbors—including the immigrants and refugees who live among us—and to extend compassion toward them. One way we can demonstrate His love to one of our foreign-born neighbors is to offer them a life-changing gift: the ability to better speak, read, and understand the basics of the English language. You can literally change a life by helping one of our neighbors improve his or her English skills. Would you consider tutoring an immigrant or refugee adult and help them learn the English language skills they desperately need? We currently have more than 35 students on our waiting list who are in need of a tutor. Some have been waiting a year or more.
