Maturing Adult Gathering March 09, 2017
We welcome Leslie Goddard—who has previously been with us as Titanic survivor Violet Jessop and her later portraying historic aviator Amelia Earhart—now bringing us an illustrated lecture on the magnificent history of the iconic Marshall Field and Company department store.
For more than 150 years, Marshall Field's reigned as Chicago's leading department store. This lavishly illustrated talk traces the store's history from its beginning as a dry goods store in 1852 into a world-class fashion and service trendsetter, and international tourist destination.
Photographs, ads, postcards, menus, and other memorabilia trace the store's cherished traditions—including the chicken pot pie on the menu of the elegant Walnut Room restaurant (also home to one of Chicago's best known Christmas trees) and the State Street store's legendary window displays. We'll review many beloved Field's traditions including the 28 Shop, Uncle Mistletoe, the bronze clocks, and, of course, Frango Mints.
You'll want to invite a friend to enjoy this unique evening with you. Tickets for our dinner and program are $10 each, and can be purchased at the Welcome Desk, online, or through various Adult Classes. Questions? Contact Susan Hands or Anabel Garza, 630.260.1600, for assistance. Ticket deadline is Tuesday, March 7.
