When families do arrive they normally have barely more than the
clothes are their backs and few belongings. Most families will be going
from the airport straight into an apartment. They will be lacking the
essentials, things like pots and pans, bedding, towels, basic hygiene
equipment, etc. We have a comprehensive shopping list of items each
family should have when they move into the apartment. Your Community
Group can contact Chris McElwee to sign up to build a kit, divide it up and go shopping. You may even
be able to pick the family up from the airport and introduce them to
their new apartment.
Going deeper with people in your community groups involves more than
gathering together in homes for Bible study and fellowship. It also
involves reaching the world, which means sharing the Gospel and serving
others. Wheaton Bible Church's mission is to Love God, Grow Together and
Reach the World. When we are doing all three parts of our mission, we
believe we are most completely responding to God's call.
Once there was a tower* of giraffes who had to flee their home because of a grass fire. The Acacia trees, their favorite food source, had been leveled and ash replaced the rest of the vegetation. As they fled the grassland, some giraffes were injured, some died from being trampled, and others died from smoke inhalation. Those who survived kept moving, wandering farther and farther from their home.
After traveling for months foraging for trees to fill their daily need for
nourishment, they saw another savannah that looked promising. Because of their
height and incredible eyesight, they noticed giraffes on this far of savannah long before they reached it, and became hopeful that they would be welcomed.
