DuPage County is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States;
yet, last year, a not-for-profit organization located about quarter
mile south of our church gave food away to 17,000 people in need. These
people were eating virtually the same thing each day or only had enough
food for two or three days at a time.
We believe that God has called us to be His hands and feet, His
presence, in our neighborhoods, DuPage County, and around the world.
Therefore, we believe that our church can and should do something about
the hungry among us. So, after prayer and exploring options, we've
decided to start a food ministry as a part of our Local Impact efforts.

Our Partner
Children's Hunger Fund (CHF) utilizes an extensive network of
generous ministries, companies, and individuals who help transform
children's lives from hunger to hope. "It has been said that a person
can live forty days without food, four days without water, four minutes
without air, but only four seconds without hope. Hope restores faith to a
life that has been robbed of dignity. Hope replaces a past of hunger,
brokenness, and despair with a bright future of opportunity. It is hope
that CHF seeks to restore."
This is how CHF works: compassionate individuals and families fill "Food
Paks" with nutritional food. These are delivered directly into the
homes of families they have never met. Since 1991, CHF has distributed
more than $500 million in aid, bringing hope to children in more than 70
countries worldwide. Children's Hunger Fund is a non-profit, 501(c)3
organization. Check out their website to learn more.
Hunger Team FAQ
Wheaton Bible Church is partnering with Children's Hunger Fund to
provide food to people in DuPage County . Here are answers to questions
you might have. If you have additional questions contact Chris McElwee,
.
You must be a believer in Jesus Christ, a regular attendee or member of
WBC, and attend one of our quarterly training meetings. After attending a
training meeting you can join a team at anytime. We have a training
meeting coming up for those interested in joining a new team. Click the below link to register for for the training meeting.
The goal of the ministry is to distribute food to people who need it. We
also want to build relationships with those in need and deliver hope to
them.
Hope restores faith to a life that has been robbed of dignity. Hope
replaces a past of hunger, brokenness and despair with a bright future
of opportunity.
Each week your team will take at least one box of food to a family or
individual in need. We hope to do this for at least 16 weeks. Some
families may need more, some less. Some might not want us to deliver
food after the initial visit. Relationships are fluid and unpredictable.
Relationships may become life-long!
We will provide you with all
the food, in boxes and ready to go. It will be up to you to decide what
time and day of the week the food is delivered.
We want people to go out in teams of 2 to 3 people. This is for safety's
sake as well as support. If a married couple or a couple of friends
want to work together great! However, teams of mixed individuals will be
mixed gender.
Families are encouraged to serve together. It will be up the parents to
decide the appropriateness of kids visiting certain households.
The best source of information is its website. We are partnering with CHF because of their commitment to the poor and
providing hope in the name of Jesus. CHF will be supplying us with an
unlimited supply of food for as long as we need it. In the future, we
will also be supplying families with school supplies all given to us by CHF.
That is for you to decide with the Lord's help. We can say that this
ministry will at times be difficult. We will be encountering people in
crisis. Along with crisis comes addiction, abuse and all kinds of
despair. We will prepare you as best we can with our training session
and ongoing training throughout the year.
We will have Hunger Team meetings throughout the year for encouragement as well as ongoing training.
